Planai-Classic 2026 – Winter Adventure Rally

Show / Festival

The Planai-Classic 2026 – Winter Adventure Rally will take place from January 8 to 10, 2026 in Styria, Austria, with its center in the alpine towns of Gröbming, Schladming, and Planai. Nestled in the Dachstein mountain region, the rally is renowned for its breathtaking winter landscapes, where snow-covered valleys and icy mountain roads set the perfect stage for this historic motorsport event. Drivers and spectators alike are treated to a unique blend of motorsport excitement and alpine atmosphere.

Unlike modern rallies, the Planai-Classic is exclusively reserved for vintage cars built up to the early 1970s, ensuring that only true classics face the winter challenge. The route includes the Niederöblarn airfield, the Gröbming harness racing track, and the legendary Planai mountain road, which is specially prepared for the event. With no electronic aids or four-wheel drive, drivers rely solely on skill, courage, and the mechanical character of their machines to navigate narrow snow-packed roads, frozen windscreens, and unpredictable alpine weather.

More than just a competition, the rally embodies the spirit of classic motoring and heritage preservation. It is often described as “one of the last great adventures with the sheet metal of the earlier years,” bringing back the raw thrill of driving before technology took over. Alongside the motorsport spectacle, organizers also emphasize sustainability, offsetting the event’s environmental impact through reforestation projects such as the Ennstal Classic Alley. This makes the Planai-Classic 2026 not only a thrilling motorsport challenge but also a celebration of history, culture, and responsibility in one of Austria’s most stunning winter settings.
